Description
View looking easterly towards the Copse of Trees from the Virginia Monument along West Confederate Avenue at Gettysburg National Military Park. Note the undulating terrain along the way; realizing that when in a swail one was relatively safe and when at the crest one would be facing iron and lead. Well that is Evocative. Great image. Thanks for sharing in the Photos you Love contest.
Michael Mazaika replied:
This is probably my favorite photo from the many at Gettysburg because it shows the undulations in terrain during the mile long crossing of Pickett's Charge. When the terrain dip the flying lead an iron could be avoided but when elevated the hail of fire was so evermore greater. I'm glad you liked this image. - Mike
