Description
Midday view easterly from inside the Meems Bottom Covered Bridge which crosses the North Fork of the Shenandoah River near Mount Jackson, Virginia. The grayed interior conveys memories of horse-and-buggy days gone by as the mechanized (some would say more colorful) future approaches from along Wissler Road towards the venerable old bridge. Originally built in the late 1860's, the longest covered bridge in Virginia has been reconstructed several times due to flood damage and in more recent years arson. The Meems Bottom Covered Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places and Virginia Landmarks Register in 1975. Great picture Michael!
Michael Mazaika replied:
Thanks, Michael. Sadly, there are few covered bridges remaining in Virginia today so it's an honor to be able to visit these remaining bits of Americana. I hope you enjoy this on-going series. - Mike
