Description
View northwest of the Rock Mill Covered Bridge originally built around 1849, rebuilt in 1880, and yet again shortly after 1900. In a classic late afternoon autumn setting, the bridge sits atop a gorge at the headwaters of the Hocking River. The bridge is located adjacent to the Rock Mill Grist Mill (constructed in 1824 and being restored as a private-public partnership coordinated by the Fairfield County Park District) within Stebelton Park near Lancaster, in Fairfield County, Ohio. The Rock Mill Covered Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Image = Ohio Covered Bridges Fairfield Rock Mill-1A 110716-110816 435-439 E-D N C1.jpg.

Michael, You obviously have a passion for covered bridges. This has served you well in your photography. Not only are there a great variety, but some that you have rooted out are of unusual and stunning design. Hocking River No. 1A is a beautiful composition which would benefit greatly by cloning out the distraction of the power lines and black diagonal object in the upper right hand corner.

Most unusual covered bridge! Love this one. LF
Michael Mazaika replied:
Thanks, William. I had seen some more open styles in western PA, but not like this. My understanding is that it was a practical design to help enable drying during wet conditions so the bridge would last longer. Glad this one did and that you enjoyed it. - Mike

Thank you, Deborah. To me, the different style in design compared to what I was first familiar with in PA was an interesting find. Glad you liked this shot. - Mike
