Description
View west-northwesterly of the eastern portal of the Meems Bottom Covered Bridge which crosses the North Fork of the Shenandoah River near Mount Jackson, VA. The mid-day sun illuminates very early autumn colors around this venerable old bridge located in the western portion of this Northern Virginia county. Originally built in the early 1890's, the longest surviving covered bridge in Virginia has been reconstructed several times due to flood damage and in more recent years arson. The Meems Bottom Covered Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places and Virginia Landmarks Register in 1975.
