Description
View towards the entrance to the Evangelical Lutheran Church on Church Street in the Historic District of downtown Frederick, Maryland. Founded in 1738 by Pastor John Stoever as the Lutheran Church in Monocacy, its storied history includes a visit by John Adams in June 1800, then Second President of the United States. The current church was completed and dedicated in 1855 and was pressed into service in 1862 during the Civil War as one of many local "hospitals" to care for Union and Confederate wounded after the Battles of South Mountain and Antietam. The twin steeples of the church make it one of the crowned jewels among Frederick's clustered spires. Image = MD Country Roads - Frederick Evan Luth Church-11b 112517 091-095 E-D M C1 PSP A-Sh.jpg.
