Description
View northeasterly towards the Mumma farm and family cemetery (not visible) from a point just to the southeast and below the elevation of the visitors center at the Antietam National Battlefield. Volunteers place nearly 23,400 luminaries at various points on the northern part of the battlefield - one for each casualty claimed during a battle that remains the single bloodiest day in American history. Thank you, William. I’ve been privileged to attend the Illumination for many years now. Still get goosebumps and never fail to marvel at the sacrifices of so many. - Mike
