Description
View northerly of the Ashland Covered Bridge adjacent to the Ashland Nature Center of the Delaware Nature Society. Early autumn colors are not yet in while water-thirsty sycamore trees along the Red Clay Creek have already given in to the coming changes of the season. Nevertheless, the bright red, well maintained bridge stands out against its background. The Ashland Covered Bridge (also known as the Barley Mill Road Covered Bridge or simply as the Ashland Bridge) is one of the last three surviving covered bridges in Delaware. Built in the mid-1800s, the bridge was refurbished around 2008. The original bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Thank you, Debra and Dave.
