Description
View northerly along the Mumma Lane just north of Richardson Lane at Antietam National Battlefield. The Old Vermont Brigade was almost unique in that its regiments were comprised of all Vermont men. The Old Vermont Brigade fought in the Battle of South Mountain, three days prior to the fighting at Antietam (Sharpsburg). The monument, dedicated in 1900, sits just west and south of the Visitors Center upon a small crest of the undulating terrain that characterizes the battlefield area. This scene is illuminated by the late summer, early evening sun and bordered by an adjacent picket fence along the road and its lengthening shadows.
