Mid-afternoon sun illuminates fall foliage mimicked by the uniquely-painted Northwood Covered Bridge (also known as Mertz Covered Bridge) located on Mirkwood Road, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. Built in 1976 and crossing onto private property, the Northwood (Mertz) Covered Bridge has been affectionately nicknamed the Golden Gate Covered Bridge by the photographer for its gold-painted access gate. Thank you, Stacie. The bridge's color was an unexpected find since all I had seen previously was a B&W image and most PA covered bridges that I've seen are red, with some white and a few rustic, unpainted wood. I hope you enjoy this ongoing series. - Mike

Colors were just about peaking in this area near the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. But, the color of this privately-owned covered bridge blending with the background was an unexpected find that set the tone for the rest of this day.
