Description
View southwesterly of a restored stone barn or outbuilding on the Best Farm with a crop of colorful soy beans about ready for harvest. The Best Farm, part of the Monocacy National Battlefield is located just a few miles south of Frederick, Maryland and situated near the important B&O rail line at Monocacy Junction. Here, Union forces under the command of Major General Lew Wallace (who later authored the novel, Ben Hur) opposed and delayed a greater force of Confederate troops led by Lieutenant General Jubal A. Early whose intentions were to attack the Union Capitol at Washington, D.C. in an effort to stave off Ulysses Grant's siege of the Confederate Capitol of Richmond, Virginia. The Battle of Monocacy later became known as the Battle That Saved Washington. Image = MD Country Roads Monocacy Battlefield-Best Farm 164-168 E-D S C1 PSP A-BC B-2.jpg.

Michael Mazaika replied:
Thank you, Wayne. Autumn is my favorite season of them all and catching soybeans at the right time is part of it. The National park Service has done a pretty neat job in developing the various sites related to the Battle of Monocacy. Glad you enjoyed this image. - Mike
