Artist's Description

Late afternoon autumn light casts its glow on the twin spires of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, one of the crowned jewels of the Frederick Maryland skyline. The church was founded in 1738 by Pastor John Stoever as the Lutheran Church in Monocacy. In its storied history, John Adams, Second President of the United States, worshiped at the church in June 1800. Construction of the current church, with its twin steeples, was completed and dedicated in 1855. The church was pressed into service in 1862 during the Civil War as one of many local "hospitals" to care for Union and Confederate wounded following the Battles of South Mountain and Antietam. The twin spires bore mention in the opening verse of John Greenleaf Whittier's poem about Dame Barbara Fritchie prior to those battles in September 1862. The Evangelical Lutheran Church continues its long tradition of ministering to the lives and souls of the Frederick community and beyond. Image = MD Country Roads - Frederick Evan Luth C...

When I gave my life to Christ it was the fulfillment of the faithful prayers of many others on my behalf. There was no resounding...
