Description
Mid-afternoon autumn light illuminates the upper half of the single spire that marks All Saints Episcopal Church on West Church Street as it peaks above nearby trees. One of the crowned jewels of the Frederick Maryland skyline, All Saints Church, founded in 1742, is the oldest Episcopal parish in Western Maryland. A new structure was built on Court Street around 1814 and the present house of worship on adjacent Church Street in the mid-1800s. Like many of the churches in Frederick, All Saints Episcopal Church was pressed into service in 1862 and 1863 during the Civil War as one of many local "hospitals" to care for Union and Confederate wounded following the Battles of South Mountain and Antietam. All Saints Episcopal Church continues its long tradition of ministering to the lives and souls of the Frederick community and beyond.
