Description
View northwesterly overlooking the Pacific Ocean from about platform height atop the restored Cape Meares Lighthouse. Originally constructed in 1889, this octagonal-shaped structure with its magnificent red fresnel lens made in France is the shortest lighthouse in Oregon at only 38 feet in height. The lighthouse has been rehabilitated from disrepair, abandonment, and vandalism several times over its long history as an aid to coastal navigation. The U.S. Coast Guard deactivated the lighthouse in 1968. Cape Meares Lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Beautiful capture!
Michael Mazaika replied:
Eddie, thank you very much. Often these sentinels need to be seen standing tall to be appreciated for what they do, but even as you get just a peak thru a scene, you come away with an understanding for their importance and their beauty. - Mike
