Description
Peak autumn colors set the view northeasterly towards the Rishel (also known as the Montandon) Covered Bridge over the Chillisquaque Creek. Originally built in 1830, the Rishel bridge has the distinction of being the oldest covered bridge in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The bridge is in very good visual condition. The small white placard near the top left edge of the portal entry marks the elevation of the floodwater line from Hurricane Agnes in 1972. Michael Mazaika replied:
Thank you, Ruth. Some days the sunlight works wonders with the autumn colors. A great example of Northumberland County's preservation efforts. - Mike
