Description
View northwesterly from McPherson's Ridge towards Herr's Ridge and South Mountain beyond. The late afternoon, autumn sun begins to cast lengthening shadows while still highlighting the red tops of a field planted in sorghum, nearing its time for harvest. The scene is reminiscent of another time and a harvest of a different sort when this storied and hallowed ground was also colored in red but with the blood of Union and Confederate soldiers on the first day of Battle at Gettysburg.
